Introducing the Idyll

Idyll in Solid Navy Acrylic

Idyll in Solid Navy Acrylic

The Idyll is the latest model from Scriptorium Pens. After receiving many requests for pens with a flush cap and barrel body style, I decided  to add one officially to the line up. This one went through several prototypes to reach the final shape/profile. It features clean, minimalist lines in the Japanese style and looks great whether clipped, clipless, or with a roll stopper. Check out the Idyll page for more images!

New Pen Model — the Epic!

Announcing the Epic!

Epic in Illuminated Amber Acrylic (Large)

The Epic is pretty much exactly what I think of when I envision fountain pens, and this model started out as a pen I made just for myself this weekend, and I liked it so much, I decided to make it part of the regular offering. I rarely make pens for myself, and this is the first one in at least a year and a half.

Like its literary namesake, the Epic is big and bold. Long, clean lines create a pen that is strong and grand without being ostentatious. The barrel expands ever so slightly toward the end before making a sharp taper downward. Though similar to the expanding barrel on the Balladeer, the Epic’s barrel is much slimmer, with only a slight swell at the widest point of diameter. This design helps to keep the pen from slipping down in the hand. Check out the Epic page for more images.

New Clips

Modern Clip in Sterling Silver, Bronze, & Brass

The new custom clips in Bronze and Brass are now available in both Classic and Modern styles, joining the Sterling Silver clips for a choice of colors to suit your pen material. These clips are hand cast using the lost wax method and are solid, not plated!  My favorite is the Bronze. I love the patina it develops over time, adding unique character to a pen. These custom clips are available as an upgrade option to the standard clip offerings.  See the new Clips page for details.

Site Updates

As mentioned above, there’s a new page just for Clips. Many customers have asked for a page with pictures of all the clips to choose from, so here it is! I’ve included both front and side angle views.

I’ve also updated the Pen Model Dimensions Chart to reflect the full Scriptorium model lineup to date.

That’s it for now. I hope to have a really cool announcement for you in a couple of weeks! 🙂

The Exemplar – A New Model!

Exemplar in Illuminated Amber AcrylicThe Exemplar joins the pen model lineup this week at the Scriptorium. Featuring a slightly curved barrel and gently rounded finials, the Exemplar presents a subtle, elegant profile that is comfortable to hold. It balances well, either posted or unposted. As with all other Scriptorium models, it can be customized in a variety of ways to suit your personality. 🙂

Also in the News:  More Clips!

Custom clips in cast Brass and Bronze will be joining the already available Sterling Silver Custom Clip selection. They should be available in a week or two!

New Model — The Literati Desk Pen

Here’s a new pen model that has been long in the works and requested by many customers. The Literati is a desk pen that features a long, elegant, slightly curved barrel that tapers to a smooth-cornered, flat end. It is available in both a 6 1/2″ and 7 1/2″ version, depending on customer preference & material availability, and can be made in my usual range of diameter sizes.  Each Literati will include a matching pen rest. The length is comparable to that of most dip pens used for calligraphy.

Naming this model was a challenge, but thanks to another pen making buddy it now has the perfect name!  And not only can you write with it, but you can also wave it around in the air and pretend you are Hermione Grainger saying, “It’s levi-oh-sa, not levi-oh-saaa! 🙂

New Model — The Troubadour

I’m excited to announce the Scriptorium’s newest addition to its model lineup — The Troubadour! I’ve always loved vintage pen designs, and many of my models display that influence.

The new Troubadour reflects the classic streamlined torpedo shape of the vintage Sheaffer Oversize Balance of the 1930′s. It features a smooth, straight barrel with an end taper leading to a slightly blunted point.  Exuberant and aerodynamic, the Troubadour is reminiscent of a bygone era in fountain pen history.

The model pictured here is a Medium sized Troubadour, with a barrel diameter of .54″. It is 5.9″ capped, 5.15″ uncapped, and 6.65″ posted. It’s also available in Small, Large, and Oversized. I hope you like it!

More News

Scriptorium Pens has been busy behind the scenes with lots of design work and prototyping on new models, including desk pens and pens featuring a “no-roll” flat area. Also in the works — custom clips! I’m super excited about these, and will reveal more information later. 🙂  Other plans are in the works which will increase the quantity and quality of output, including upgrades to a better working space and the addition of a metal lathe and other equipment.  Scriptorium Pens is growing, and that means working inside the house is no longer practical. While it might be fun to look out the sliding glass door all day at the beautiful back yard, the new metal lathe will need a shop of its own. My family is assisting me in the renovation/remodeling of my father’s old workshop out back, and we hope to be able to move into it soon. 🙂  As you can see, SP is bustling with activity right now.  Thank you for helping to make it that way!

Cap Bands and another New Model: The Master Scrivener

As a follow-up to last week’s introduction of the new Scrivener, today I’m introducing the Scrivener’s dressier sibling, the Master Scrivener:

Master Scrivener in Elven Wood alumilite with Copper Clip and Cap Band

Inspired by vintage pen styles from the 1930′s, the Master Scrivener gives a nod especially to the Wahl Eversharp Doric with its elongated cap and tall, peaked finial. The gently curving spoon clip is available in a variety of finishes to help create a distinctive look for your custom pen, and the metal cap band lends added flair. The barrel’s subtle waistline provides a comfortable, well-balanced handhold and allows the cap to be posted deeply and securely. Like the other Scriptorium offerings, the Master Scrivener has a Cartridge/Converter/Eyedropper filling system.

I’m excited to be able to offer cap bands and finial washers on my pens for the  first time. Bands are available in Sterling Silver, Copper, Jeweler’s Brass, and Aluminum, and in several thickness options as well.

New Model — The Scrivener

I’m excited to announce a new pen design called the Scrivener. Its shape is reminiscent of the vintage pens of the 1930’s like the Wahl Eversharp Doric and Equipoise. This design features a long, elegant cap with a tall finial, and a smooth barrel with gently curved waistline. The long cap posts deeply, and is comfortably balanced posted, even for those who normally prefer to write unposted, like me. 🙂

The clip, a rolling “bowling ball” style, is available in 24k gold, nickel, or chrome. The section has a smooth transition to the barrel threads and body for a clean line and comfortable handhold. Here are a few more pics, or visit the Scrivener page to see them all. Look for more new designs coming soon, including models with bands!
